Maria Menounos Tells Megyn Kelly Brain Tumor ‘Was a Gift’ (Video)

NBC News’ Megyn Kelly previewed her upcoming “Sunday Night” interview with TV host Maria Menounos Friday on the “Today” show, marking the first time Menounos has spoken on television since her brain tumor diagnosis.

“I think that this was a gift, because I needed to change my life. I needed to change the way… I did everything,” Menounos told Kelly.

Earlier this month, Menounos revealed that she recently underwent risky surgery to remove a brain tumor and stepped down as co-anchor of E! News. She had the seven-hour surgery with famed neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black on June 8, when 99.9 percent of the benign tumor was removed.

Menounos, who is still recovering, discussed her own mother’s battle with stage 4 brain cancer during her conversation with Kelly. The “Sunday Night” host noted that while Menounos is on the road to recovery, her mother has a tough journey ahead.

“I just hope that we can make her one of the long-term survivors. Because I’m worried about her. Nobody ever wants to lose their mom,” she said.

Menounos recently told People that she considers the experience a “blessing” that brought her family closer.

Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly” airs at 7 p.m. ET on NBC
