Margot Robbie to Host ‘SNL’ Season Premiere

Margot Robbie is set to host the upcoming “Saturday Night Live” Season 42 premiere on October 1, when The Weeknd will return as musical guest.

This year, “SNL” added new players Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseñor and Mikey Day to the cast. The trio effectively replaces Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah and Jon Rudnitsky. “Wild ‘N Out” alum Day was actually a writer on the show, ironically penning plenty for Killam in the past.

Fired fan-favorites and “SNL” veterans Killam and Pharoah leave big shoes to fill, though Rudnitsky was one-and-done as a featured act — he struggled for camera time on the highly competitive program. Don’t feel too badly for Killam and Pharoah, they both landed on their feet over at Showtime.

First-time host Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) can still be seen starring as Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad,” which was a big box office hit but got panned by critics.

Meanwhile, two-time Grammy Award winner and Oscar nominee The Weeknd’s upcoming album, “Starboy,” is due out on November 25.

Saturday Night Live” is produced in association with Broadway Video. Lorne Michaels is creator and executive producer. On Sunday, standout Kate McKinnon became the first “SNL” player to win an Emmy Award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy.
