Jon Hamm Has the Perfect 'Mad Men' Spinoff Idea

With Better Call Saul already a hit, and Fear the Walking Dead also poised to gobble up ratings, it’s only understandable that AMC would seriously look into the spinoff potential of Mad Men now that Sunday night’s series finale puts the period drama in the history books. And the show’s star Jon Hamm has the perfect pitch for a sequel. As he says in the above clip, filmed at the Television Academy’s star-packed “A Farewell to Mad Men Panel,” the ideal spinoff would focus on Don Draper’s wise-beyond-her-years daughter, Sally, played by wise-beyond-her-years teen actress, Kiernan Shipka.

As per Hamm’s outline, this new show — for which he suggests the working title of Sally Through the Decades — would pick up where Mad Men leaves off in 1970 and follow the eldest Draper child as she remakes herself in the image of Joan Jett. “She’d ride a motorcycle and kill a guy and make a bunch of money and become Oliver Stone in the ‘80s,” her on-screen dad continues. “And then date Kurt Cobain in the ‘90s, because she’s so cool. She’s a touchstone for every generation. I’d watch that show; I think everyone would watch that show!” Especially if Coca-Cola sponsored it.
