‘Luke Cage’ Star Reveals Perks of Having a Deep Voice

Mike Colter swung by Conan to promote his role in Luke Cage as Marvel’s newest superhero. Conan was fascinated with Colter’s deep voice, an attribute the actor got when his voice changed around 10 years old on the playground.

“I was walking around the playground, my voice was kind of high and then it went down. Then it went high again and then it went down again,” Colter explained. His friends just thought it was weird, but then Colter says “it just dropped in one day and all of the sudden I was talking like this for the rest of my life.”

His low baritone voice managed to get him some special attention in art class from his teacher, who he says gave him some extra attention teaching him how to draw, leaning in close, and asking him questions about his voice. It took him 10 years to realize what she was possibly doing.

Conan airs weeknights at 11/10c on TBS.
