‘Love’ Star Gillian Jacobs Watches ‘Vanderpump Rules’ to Learn How to Act Drunk

Alcoholism, sex addiction, behavioral issues, and poor impulse control are just a few of the problems Gillian Jacobs’s character, Mickey, deals with on the Netflix show Love. According to Jacobs, she’s never had a drink or done drugs, so she had to look elsewhere for inspiration on exactly how to portray this troubled woman. On The Late Late Show With James Corden, she explained how she learned to play a drunk, addicted character: by watching the Bravo TV hit Vanderpump Rules.

“I don’t know what it’s like to be drunk, and I always play these characters who have problems with addiction. And I was watching Vanderpump Rules, and my boyfriend, Chris, says, ‘That is what really drunk people look like, you should just do that,” Jacobs said

For those of you unfamiliar with Vanderpump Rules, it’s a reality TV show centered around the drama-filled lives of employees of the West Hollywood, Calif., restaurant Sur. Jacobs specifically names Jax Taylor and Katie Maloney as the employees she based her character on.
