‘Longmire’ Renewed For Sixth & Final Season By Netflix
Longmire is coming to an end — again. Netflix has renewed the contemporary crime thriller starring Robert Taylor and Katee Sackhoff for a 10-episode sixth season, which will be its last. It will premiere in 2017 in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Netflix came to the rescue when Longmire was surprisingly canceled by A&E days after the series’ third-season finale, which had ended with a major cliffhanger. The decision angered the series’ loyal fans, who launched one of the biggest save-the-show campaigns. Longmire had been the most watched original series in A&E history, packing almost 6 million viewers an episode, though it skewed older and was produced by an outside studio, Warner Horizon, which contributed to its demise at the cable network.
The series’ 2014 pickup by Netflix illustrated for the first time the Internet network’s strategy to order original series based on their strong appeal to a specific segment of the audience. With the Season 6 renewal, Longmire will double its original three-season run on A&E. Additionally, the final season announcement gives executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny time to craft a conclusion of the series over 10 episodes.

Longmire, produced by the Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Horizon Television, is set in Big Sky country. Based on the Walt Longmire mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson, the series stars Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, along with Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley and A. Martinez. Hunt Baldwin, John Coveny, Greer Shephard and Michael M. Robin executive produce.
