'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' Sneak Peek: See William Shatner as Grand Pear

Now here’s something you probably never thought you’d see: William Shatner as a pony! And not just any pony. The actor best known as Captain Kirk on TV’s Star Trek guest stars as “Grand Pear” on the Discovery Family animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Turns out Shatner is a superfan of the My Little Pony franchise — a bona fide brony — and as you can see in this exclusive sneak peek clip from the Aug. 5 episode “The Perfect Pear,” this Grand Pear fits right in with all of the other Ponyville pals in the enchanted land of Equestria. As a bonus, he makes a mean batch of jam, too.

The flashback-filled episode will also show Grand Pear in his younger days, and we have to say, he was one handsome horse.

In addition to Shatner, Felicia Day (Supernatural) guest stars as “Pear Butter” in the episode, which plays out as a Romeo and Juliet-inspired love story when the Apple siblings learn about an ancient feud between the Apple and Pear families before their parents, Bright Mac and Pear Butter, married. Yes, they’re half-Apple, half-Pear, which, incidentally, sounds like a really good jam recipe.
