'Saturday Night Live' #TBT: How Do You Say Melanie Griffith?

Like mother, like daughter: First, Dakota Johnson followed in mother Melanie Griffith’s footsteps as a movie actress. Now, the Fifty Shades of Grey star is hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time this weekend.

Griffith served as host back in 1988 — before Dakota was even born! Griffith remarried Don Johnson in June 1989, and the two had Dakota later that year. Their second marriage lasted just a few years, after which Griffith wed Antonio Banderas.

The union of Griffith and Banderas seemed like such a mismatch that, of course, SNL poked fun at it in one of the show’s recurring sketches, “How Do You Say?” Chris Kattan played a heavily accented Banderas, and in 1999, host Drew Barrymore joined in as Griffith.

"Question: I am much more the sexy than your former love interest, the Miami Vice guy, no?” Kattan’s Banderas asks.

"Please, you’re way sexier than Don Johnson!" Barrymore’s Griffith breathily exclaims.

The sketch also took shots at Griffith’s airhead persona, her high-pitched voice, and her tendency to show a lot of cleavage. Will Dakota take on an impersonation of her mother when she hosts?

She definitely seems ready to laugh at herself (and her mom) in her SNL promos, which make light of the duo’s awkward interview on the Oscars red carpet:

Dakota Johnson will appear on SNL with musical guest Alabama Shakes this Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
