Lee Daniels’ ‘Star’ to Debut Following ‘Empire’ Midseason Finale

Lee Daniels’ upcoming series “Star” will debut on December 14, immediately following the Season 3 midseason premiere of “Empire.”

The Dec. 14 airing will serve as a special early preview of the show that will head to its regular timeslot in the new year on Wed., Jan. 4.

“Empire” will air at 8 p.m. (when “Lethal Weapon” usually airs) on Dec. 14 and “Star” will follow at 9 p.m. The lead-in will surely give “Star” a boost, as “Empire” is broadcast’s top scripted series.

“Star,” which hails from Daniels and Tom Donaghy, centers around three talented young singers, who are desperate for a new start and with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business. The music-filled drama stars Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt, along with newcomers Jude Demorest in the title role, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O’Grady and Amiyah Scott. Guest stars include Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell and Tyrese Gibson.

With both “Empire” and “Star” hailing from Daniels and being set in the world of music, the Dec. 14 programming block is a sensible decision, as the “Empire” audience will likely have interest in “Star.” After the holiday hiatus, “Empire’s” Wednesday night slot will be replaced by “Star,” as “Empire” always goes off the air from mid December through most of March.
