‘Last Tycoon’ Sneak Peek: Matt Bomer’s Moving and Shaking in New Amazon Pilot

It’s not easy working for a legend.

In Amazon’s new drama pilot The Last Tycoon, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last, unfinished novel, Matt Bomer plays Monroe Stahr, a rising studio executive in Hollywood. His talent and ambition begin to put him at odds with his boss and mentor, Pat Brady (Kelsey Grammer).

In this sneak-peek clip from the pilot, Monroe comes to Pat’s office for a meeting, though Pat’s got other things on his mind. First, it’s his daughter, who works in Monroe’s office and hopes to catch a glimpse of film star Gary Cooper — whom Pat dismisses as a “prostitute.”

“Everybody who comes into this office is a prostitute,” he says. “They don’t walk in here unless they want something.”

Pat’s also intrigued by Monroe’s new secretary, but the younger man reminds him, “We have a deal about that.” The Last Tycoon chronicles the golden era of the studio system in the 1930s, when Hollywood roiled with a thirst for power, money, sex, and fame. Watch the pilot here.

The pilot is available to stream and review on Amazon starting June 17.
