Larry Wilmore to Host White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Larry Wilmore, host of Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore,” will be the featured entertainer at the next White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on April 30.

Wilmore will be joining a list of entertainers that includes Jay Leno, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert and Cecily Strong. With thousands of members of the media in attendance, as well as the President and First Lady, it is not only one of the most high profile gigs of a career, but one of the most scrutinized.

“Larry’s edgy, even provocative, brand of humor means he’s certainly up to the task of skewering politicians of all ideological stripes, and we don’t expect the nation’s news media to escape unscathed, either,” said Carol Lee, White House correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and president of the White House Correspondents Association.

“We are thrilled that Larry has accepted our invitation to be the featured comedian at our annual dinner, which will be the last during the Obama White House,” she added.

The WHCA represents the White House press corps in its dealings with the administration on access and other coverage-related issues. Proceeds from the dinner go toward scholarships and awards for excellence during the past year.
