Kevin Bacon Sings Tom Petty’s Hilarious ‘First Draft’ of ‘Free Fallin’ ’
Kevin Bacon dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday. Bacon dressed up as Tom Petty, and Fallon dressed up as his guitarist, Mike Campbell, to perform in a sketch called “First Drafts of Rock.”
Bacon and Fallon played the “first draft” of Petty’s legendary song “Free Fallin’,” which contained quite a few more lyrics about horses than you’d expect. For example one line from the song was, “She loves horse hair, horse teeth, and horse noses. She loves horseshoes and horses too.”
While the first draft of the song was about horses, it was certainly not about other animals as the lyrics clearly stated: “She doesn’t like goats, she don’t like llamas, she doesn’t care for them crazy kangaroos.”
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘s Facebook page claims the song was originally titled “Free Horses” instead of “Free Fallin’.” This is pretty believable considering the chorus was, “Free horses” over and over again.
