Keri Russell Rejected an ‘Americans’ Disguise That Looked Too Much Like Felicity

On Keri Russell’s hit show The Americans, she’s often asked to wear disguises. One disguise she refused to wear was one that made her look too much like the role that made her famous: Felicity. Not the short-haired Felicity; the big, curly-puffy-hair Felicity. On Live with Kelly, Russell gave her reasons for turning the disguise down.

“In the early days, there was a Felicity-like curly wig they kept throwing at me. I was like, ‘Guys, guys, c’mon. I lived it for many years. Let’s not go back there,” Russell said.

This makes perfect sense. Felicity was, of course, adorable, and that’s not what The Americans is going for.

“These days we like the more unattractive,” Russell told Live host Kelly Ripa, adding: “The more unattractive they are, the more we like them.”

Making Keri Russell unattractive sounds like quite a feat, and there was one particular look among the photos of Russell’s many disguises that was, thankfully, not considered unattractive, or it might have made for an awkward interview. In the photo, she looks almost exactly like Kelly Ripa.
