JonBenét Ramsey: Postmurder Interview Tapes With Brother Unearthed on ‘Dr. Phil’

In part 2 of Dr. Phil’s exclusive interview with JonBenét Ramsey’s older brother, Burke, Dr. Phil showed for the first time ever video footage of Burke being interviewed by child psychiatrists after his sister’s murder.

The first interview was done just 13 days after the murder. In it, Burke was asked to draw a picture of his family. He only drew both of his parents and himself, leaving his recently deceased sister out of the picture. When asked about it now, he said he didn’t remember what he was thinking at the time, but she was gone so he didn’t draw her. In the same video, he was asked what he thought happened to his sister. He said he knew what happened to his sister, then proceeded to make a swinging motion, saying he thought someone did it with a knife or a hammer.

At the time of the interview, some of the details leaked to the press were that Burke displayed a lack of warmth and emotion toward his family — that he seemed indifferent, that he had difficulty opening up about his family, and that his behavior was similar to that of children who feel there’s something they shouldn’t say.

When asked about this, Burke explained, “I think I felt a little awkward talking about it. And I think it was just something that I thought everyone knew. So it was like, ‘Why are you asking me about this again?’”

According to Dr. Phil, there are those who still criticize Burke’s behavior today.

To this, Burke replied, “At some point you have to move on.” And, “You gotta stop crying at some point.”
