Jon Stewart Mocks GOP’s Reaction to Pope Francis

Earlier in June, Pope Francis released a nearly 200-page encyclical calling for action by the world’s nations on the environment, because “If present trends continue, this century may well witness extraordinary climate change and an unprecedented destruction of  ecosystems.”

On The Daily Show Thursday, Jon Stewart made fun of how Republicans, traditionally big supporters of the Pope, are struggling with this document – considering their resistance to the realities of global warming.

After playing a clip of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush saying, “I don’t get economic policy from my bishops or my cardinals or my pope…I think religion ought to be about making us better as people and less about things that get into the political realm, Stewart quipped, "Yeah, religion is about making us better people and politics is about bringing out our worst."
