With President Obama making his first visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night, Jimmy thought he’d go out onto the streets of Hollywood and see how much (or how little) our fellow citizens know about the Prez. Yes, folks, it’s a special Commander-in-Chief edition of “Lie Witness News.”
You know the drill: A Kimmel correspondent makes up an outrageous lie (”What are your thoughts on President Obama’s new earrings?”) and asks random people on the street what they think about it. And either through sheer ignorance or a desperate desire to be on TV, they go along with it.
First, there’s the guy who defends VP Joe Biden for offending Vladimir Putin with a “yo mama” joke: “I thought it was hilarious… nothing wrong with a little comedy.” Then there’s the girl who’s pretty sure she saw pictures of Obama and Kim Jong-un cuddled up in bed together during a sleepover: ”I think they watched Titanic… that’s what I saw on Twitter.”
We almost had hope for the young girl who says Dennis Rodman isn’t qualified to be the U.S. ambassador to North Korea… but then she went and said “we have really excellent relations with North Korea right now,” and our hopes for an educated electorate crumbled.
It’s all the more terrifying when you consider that these people are all eligible to vote! God bless America. Seriously, bless it. We need all the help we can get.
Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
