‘Jeopardy!’ Taps Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ for ‘Becky With the Good Hair’ Clues

At long last, superfans of TV quiz shows and visual pop albums can rejoice. On Tuesday, Jeopardy! brought those two worlds together when they used “Becky With the Good Hair” as one of the categories, an obvious nod to queen bee Beyoncé’s 2016 visual album, Lemonade.

The easier questions in the category dealt with television. The first Becky was Rebecca, Kirstie Alley’s character in the classic sitcom, Cheers. The other TV question was a bit more contemporary. It was about Gabourey Sidibe’s character, Becky, in the hit Fox show Empire.

The other clues involving a Becky came from literature and were a bit more difficult for the average reader. The first one was about a character from Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer other than Tom Sawyer. Becky Sharp, a character from the W.M. Thackeray novel, Vanity Fair, was the focus of the $800 clue; and the last Becky was Rebecca, the title character in Mary Pickford’s Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.

As with most episodes of Jeopardy!, you can learn a lot even if you just watch the clues about “Becky With the Good Hair”, but don’t waste your time looking for any correlation between the clues and Lemonade other than someone named Becky. Believe me. We tried.
