Jennifer Hudson will be recognized for something other than her singing and acting skills at this year’s People’s Choice Awards.
The “Dreamgirls” star will receive the second annual Favorite Humanitarian award at this year’s ceremony, which airs live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Wednesday at 9 p.m. on CBS.
Hudson will receive the award, which is presented by Walgreens, for her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation. The Foundation, which Hudson formed with her sister Julia Hudson in honor of their slain nephew Julian King, works to provide stability and positive experiences for children of all backgrounds so that they may grow to become productive, confident and happy adults, able to be positive influences on their communities.
Hudson said that the award will bring a welcome spotlight to the Foundation.
“Thank you for honoring me with the Favorite Humanitarian Award. My sister Julia and I were raised with the belief that helping others was always very important. I am so grateful that the People’s Choice Awards and Walgreens have come together in the same spirit,” Hudson said of the award. “This spotlight will provide us with the opportunity to share all the amazing work being done by the Julian D. King Gift Foundation for children in the city of Chicago and around the United States.”
The award will be accompanied by a $100,000 donation to the Foundation. Customers can help increase the donation by up to an additional $100,000 by clicking on the People’s Choice Awards icon on Walgreens’ mobile app starting tomorrow.
