'Between': Jennette McCurdy Previews Her Viral Thriller

The prospect of a catastrophic viral outbreak would scare even the steeliest of action heroes, but Jennette McCurdy, star of Netflix’s new virus-themed thriller Between, chooses to retain her sense of youthful optimism. “If faced with a worldly catastrophe, [my] generation would definitely be different than past generations,” she tells YahooTV. “I think we would really find the leaders and the open-mindedness that would help the generation to survive, because pettiness and things like that just [aren’t] going to serve anyone.”

McCurdy brings some of that can-do spirit to Between, where she plays 18-year-old Wiley Day, a resident of the picturesque town called Pretty Lake which finds itself decimated by a disease that kills off everyone over the age of 22. The town’s youthful survivors have to figure out a way to keep the town running, especially with the federal government moving to place Pretty Lake under quarantine. Complicating matters further for Wiley is the fact that she’s pregnant. “She’s coming into her own and she’s trying to figure herself out,” McCurdy explains. “She’s a bit lost [and] facing a lot of inner turmoil.” Sounds like Wiley is a great candidate for a dramatic series… but maybe not so much for small-town government.

Between premieres Thursday, May 21 on Netflix.
