Jeanne Parr Dies: Chris Noth’s Mom & CBS News Pioneer Was 92
Jeanne Parr, a pioneering CBS News correspondent and mother of The Good Wife and Sex & The City actor Chris Noth, died Friday. She was 92.
“My mother lived fiercely with courage and love,” Noth said in a statement. “She never accepted anything less than her dreams. And she wanted those same qualities for her children. She lived long and died surrounded by those she loved and who loved her.”
Parr began her career at a small TV station in Madison, WI. She was eventually spotted by a CBS producer who liked her work, and as they say, the rest is history. She went on to a career at CBS in New York, where she initially worked as a weather girl on The Jim Jensen Show before becoming a full-time news correspondent.
Parr stayed with CBS through the 1960s and ’70s, covering the Republican National Convention in San Francisco and the 1967 Newark/New York riots. She landed her own talk show on CBS in 1978, The Jeanne Parr Show. She later went on to produce documentaries, wrote The Superwives, a book about the spouses of star athletes, and established her own media company.
She’s survived by her three sons, Chris, Charles and Michael. Parr’s death was first reported by People.
