‘Jane the Virgin’ Is ‘Jane the Widow’ Three Years After the Death of Michael

After last week’s shocking and heartbreaking death of Michael on Jane the Virgin, we briefly saw Jane’s overwhelming grief — and then the action jumped ahead to three years later, where life has gone on, with some big changes, including a slightly less cute, tantrum throwing Mateo.

While Raphael has gotten out of jail and reached a new bearded state of Zen, Rogelio’s relationship with Darci has become a complete sham to support the ratings for their wildly successful reality show, The De La Vega-Factor Factor.

Jane’s dream job with her dream boss has turned into her nightmare job with her nightmare boss, but said boss did read her novel, and she liked it, arranging for Jane to do a special public reading.

And, surprise, it turned out that the book was not about her abuela (as she’d been working on before) — it was about her love story with Michael, but with an important change. In the book, they get their “happily ever after.”

Jane, overwhelmed with emotion, felt that she couldn’t do the reading, but Raphael was there to get her out on that stage with some very tough love. Jane went on to successfully do the reading and later received a very special phone call from a publisher who wanted to buy her book.

Jane the Virgin airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on the CW.
