U.K. commercial broadcaster ITV has acquired new sitcom “The Great Indoors” from CBS Studios International for broadcast in Britain on its ITV2 channel. The show, which stars Joel McHale and Stephen Fry, premieres Oct. 27 in the U.S. on CBS.
The licensing agreement provides ITV2 the exclusive first-window broadcast and VOD rights to the show for the U.K. McHale plays a renowned adventure reporter whose globe-trotting days come to an end when the founder of the outdoor magazine he works for (Fry) announces its move to web-only and assigns him to supervise an online team of millennials in the digital department. The cast also includes Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Christine Ko, Shaun Brown, Susannah Fielding and Chris Williams.
“The Great Indoors is a smart premise with a strong cast, and we think it’ll be a great addition to the wealth of youth-skewing comedy we’re continuing to build on ITV2,” said Rosemary Newell, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions for ITV.
ITV acquisitions manager Sasha Breslau said the comedy was “hands down” her favorite sitcom pilot for the new US season, “successfully treading the line between sweet and sharp, warm and witty.”
Mike Gibbons (“Tosh.0”), Chris Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Andy Ackerman (“The New Adventures Of Old Christine”) serve as executive producers. The show is produced by CBS Television Studios and distributed internationally by CBS Studios International.
