IM Global Taps EuropaCorp Exec John Zois As SVP Acquisitions

John Zois, most recently director of worldwide acquisitions at EuropaCorp, has joined indie producer/financier/sales outfit IM Global as SVP Acquisitions. He will report to founder and CEO Stuart Ford and work alongside director of acquisitions JR Smith.

At EuropaCorp, Zois acquired James Ponsoldt’s The Circle starring Tom Hanks, Emma Watson and John Boyega, for which IM Global eventually acquired international rights. He also had a hand in deals for The Nice Guys in France and the Jessica Chastain-starrer Miss Sloane.

Zois also worked at FilmNation Entertainment. He began his career at AMC Theatres and then Gersh.

“John is a savvy, well-respected figure on the acquisitions circuit and going forward I’m sure he will play a significant role in helping us board the strongest independent projects from around the globe as either a financier, distributor or sales agent,” Ford said.

Last month, Chinese media group Tang Media Partners acquired a majority stake in IM Global from India’s Reliance Group. In conjunction with that deal, Tang also partnered with Ford to launch a TV joint venture with Tencent to produce and distribute television content. It will operate under the existing IM Global TV banner. The two deals are worth in the region of $200 million.

IM Global’s 2016 slate includes the just-released Free State Of Jones and the upcoming Mel Gibson movie Hacksaw Ridge as well as Martin Scorsese’s Silence and the Obama date movie Southside With You.
