'Homeland' Season 5 Trailer: 'You Can Take the Girl Out of the CIA, But…'

The first few moments of this just-released Homeland Season 5 trailer show Carrie Mathison in a state of domestic bliss… but don’t worry: It doesn’t last long.

When the new season of Showtime’s hit thriller (debuting Oct. 4) opens, Carrie’s left the CIA to serve as head of security for a German billionaire, biking the streets of Berlin with her daughter, and even enjoying a new romance.

But of course, this is Homeland, so the high-stakes world of international terrorism is never too far away. Carrie escorts her billionaire client to Lebanon… and ends up becoming a suspect in a massive CIA data breach. As one character tells her, “You can take the girl out of the CIA, but… you know.”

Saul’s back, too, employing Quinn as an assassin for hire, leaving the identity of his soon-to-be victims in a lockbox. And Quinn’s as cold-blooded as ever: “If the name’s in the box, I’ll take care of anyone you put in there.” (We have a feeling that statement of his might be tested this season.)

And despite her best efforts, Carrie gets roped back into the intrigue, donning a mask to blend in at a protest, sniffing unidentified drugs (!), and taking aim with a high-powered rifle before being accosted: “Maybe I knew someday my past would catch up with me.” Yeah, we kind of knew that, too.

Season 5 of Homeland premieres Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
