‘Hamilton’ Star Daveed Diggs Is Now Friends With His Childhood Hero, MC Hammer

Daveed Diggs, one of the original stars of the Broadway hit Hamilton, stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden on Wednesday to talk about his legit love of MC Hammer.

“Honestly, my most fanboy moment was when MC Hammer came,” Diggs said about the famous rapper attending a Hamilton performance. “MC Hammer is really, really important to me, so shout out to Hammer because we text now — that breaks my brain.”

Diggs said that when he was a kid growing up in Oakland, Calif., he and his friends dubbed themselves “The Little Hammers” and would dress up and learn the dance moves from their hometown hero’s latest hit songs.

The Broadway star, who also has his own rap group called Clipping, admitted that texting with Hammer is a nerve-racking experience as he gets sweaty palms and writes multiple drafts before sending.
