‘Greenleaf’ Adds EP Kathleen McGhee-Anderson For Season 2

Kathleen McGhee-Anderson (Lincoln Heights; Madiba, The Nelson Mandela Story) has been named EP of OWN’s new original drama series Greenleaf.
McGhee-Anderson joins Greenleaf executive producers Craig Wright (Lost, Six Feet Under), Oprah Winfrey (Selma) and Clement Virgo (The Book of Negroes) for Season 2, which starts production in the fall. The announcement was made today by OWN and production house Lionsgate.

OWN’s rookie drama last week set a network Wednesday viewership mark, pulling 2.3 million total viewers and a 1.79 rating in the women 25-54 demo. The episode was the most watched since the series’ record-setting premiere. Greenleaf ranks as summer’s No. 1 new cable series among women and total viewers. Created by Craig Wright, it earned a Season 2 renewal two months ahead of its June premiere.

Set against the backdrop of a Memphis megachurch, Greenleaf centers on the journey of estranged daughter and disillusioned preacher Grace Greenleaf (Merle Dandridge) who has returned home after 20 years on the occasion of the mysterious death of her sister, Faith. As she reenters the world of Calvary Fellowship World Ministries, the Memphis megachurch run by her powerful parents Bishop James Greenleaf (Keith David) and Lady Mae Greenleaf (Lynn Whitfield), it becomes evident that the family’s outward display of faith hides sin and misdeeds. Oprah Winfrey exec produces and also recurs on the series as Mavis McCready, marking her return to scripted TV.

In today’s announcement, OWN president Erik Logan said McGhee-Anderson’s “vast experience and passion for storytelling” will be a great complement to the existing team, whileLionsgate TV Group EVP President Chris Selak called McGhee-Anderson’s an “incredible asset.”
