‘Good Girls Revolt’ First Look: Locker-Room Talk ... in the Office

Being a working woman is tough — but it was a whole lot tougher in 1969. That’s the central theme of Amazon’s upcoming drama Good Girls Revolt, which is about a group of young female researchers at a weekly New York newsmagazine. In this exclusive clip, the female staffers of News of the Week — including researchers Jane (Anna Camp), Patti (Genevieve Angelson) and Cindy (Erin Darke) — must listen while their bosses carry on a crude debate about which photo to use for a cover story on the budding feminist movement. “I want a gorgeous broad,” barks one editor, after soundly rejecting a shot of The Feminine Mystique author Betty Friedan. “Gloria Steinem’s not bad,” suggests another, while the women listen, horrified.

When the men decide that what they really want is a “nameless, faceless” woman for their feminism cover, Patti can no longer keep her disgust to herself. Good Girls Revolt, based on Lynn Povich’s 2012 book The Good Girls Revolt: How The Women of Newsweek Sued Their Bosses and Changed the Workplace, also stars Grace Gummer and Jim Belushi.

Good Girls Revolt premieres Friday, Oct. 28, on Amazon. You can watch the first episode for free now.
