Golden Globes 2017: By the Numbers

Whether you’re just a fan of good entertainment or a numerology-obsessed arcane wizard, numbers are all around us and the 2017 Golden Globes are no exception. Let’s take a look at some of the facts and figures that help put this year’s event in perspective.

70: That’s the number of nominees in the acting category this year. Tight race, folks.

10: Repeat acting nominees from 2016. That includes last year’s winners Gael García Bernal, Christian Slater, and Rachel Bloom–these talents are on what you’d call a hot streak.

28: The number of first-time nominees. On the flip side, there’s lots of fresh faces in this year’s lineup, in addition to the usual suspects.

30: This year marks 30 career nominations for the esteemed Meryl Streep.

7: The lucky number of noms for the late-in-the-year critical darling, La La Land. That’s the most of any film this year.

And while long-standing favorites like Meryl Streep are awards-season veterans by now, there’s a whole crop of fresh faces losing their Golden Globe virginity on Sunday — 28 of them, to be precise. Check out the video below to see who has been nominated for their very first Golden Globe:
