Girl With Celiac Disease Uses Gluten-Free Knowledge to Win ‘Chopped Junior’

On Chopped Junior Tuesday night, Maizy Boosin wowed the judges with a gluten-free peanut butter sauce, even though she doesn’t like peanut butter. Maizy got into cooking when she found out she suffered from Celiac disease, which is a genetic autoimmune disorder in which the ingestion of gluten leads to damage of the small intestine. Maizy said, “When I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, there were lots of foods that I couldn’t eat anymore. So that’s when I started getting into cooking and baking. So now I am such an adventurous eater.”

The 12-year-old chef said that if she won, she would donate a portion of the $10,000 prize to the National Celiac Disease Foundation. Although, that wasn’t the only plan young Maizy had for her winnings, she said. “With the rest of the money, I’d like to get tickets to Hamilton.”

Thanks, in part, to her delicious peanut butter sauce, Maizy won the show and is one step closer to Broadway.

Chopped Junior airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on Food Network.
