'Gilmore Girls' Revival on Netflix: 5 Things We Want to See

Netflix, where you lead, we will follow — especially if you lead us to a revival of Gilmore Girls. News broke yesterday that the streaming service is bringing back the beloved dramedy for a limited series consisting of four 90-minute episodes. The Internet, predictably, went nuts at the prospect of seeing what’s become of Lorelai (Lauren Graham), daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) and their friends and family in Stars Hollow.

Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons, from 2000-2007, and the titular characters had their ups and downs, love interests, hairstyles, and cups of coffee (MANY cups of coffee). The final season was a bit controversial — OK, utterly loathed — by most fans, as creator Amy Sherman-Palladino didn’t oversee it due to a contract dispute. Now Sherman-Palladino will get a chance to end her series on her terms (including the final four words she always envisioned would close out the series). So, what do we want to see from these last four mini-movies? Get ready, Netflix: Here’s our list.

1. Richard Gilmore’s memorial

Sadly, Edward Herrmann died last year, which means Lorelai’s gentle, gentlemanly father won’t be around for the revival. He will be very much missed, and his absence should be noted in some way. Maybe his death brings Rory back from her travels/high-profile job to Stars Hollow?

2. Luke and Lorelai Are Happily Married

There were many reasons we don’t like season 7, but the biggest travesty of all was Lorelai marrying Christopher… WITHOUT RORY, THEIR CHILD. Finally, this terrible wrong can be righted. We want to see Luke and Lorelai banter over coffee. We want to see them banter over her inability to do anything around the house. We want to see them banter in bed. You hear us, Netflix? We need banter!

3. A Stars Hollow Town Meeting

Gilmore Girls was about the titular characters, but it was also about all the quirky, weird, completely lovable figures who populated their small town. Kirk! Miss Patty! Taylor! Mrs. Kim! Babette! We want to see Lane and Zach’s twins all grown up. We want to see Sookie and Jackson’s big family (Melissa McCarthy, you’re a mega-star now, but pleeeeeease come back).

4. Rory Reunites With Logan

Sorry, Rory-Jess people. Sorry, Rory-Dean-ers (if you exist). But I’m a Rory-Logan shipper. Their relationship ended on the most head-scratching note. How about this scenario: Rory visits Stars Hollow while on a break from reporting on Hillary Clinton’s campaign, and runs into her ex. He’s in charge of his father’s business, and wants her to work with him. She agrees, but only if she can do things her way. Fireworks ensue.

That said, we love Milo Ventimiglia and Jared Padalecki, and it’d be a treat to see them both make cameos. And The Good Wife producers had better let Matt Czuchry have time off for this!

5. Lorelai and Emily Make Peace for Good

Friction is fine; this mother-daughter duo wouldn’t be the same without sarcastic quips. But this relationship never evolved quite to where we wanted it to be by the end of the original series.

It’d be great if the tables were turned — perhaps after Richard’s death, Emily needs to rely on Lorelai to get her affairs in order. Finally, she can truly see what a competent, mature, kick-ass woman her daughter has become.

Gilmore Girls is available for streaming on Netflix. There is no date set yet for the new episodes.
