‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Finale Title Revealed: Who Are ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’?

HBO has revealed the title of the Season 7 finale of “Game of Thrones,” hinting at a link between two of the show’s great houses.

“The Dragon and the Wolf” will air on Sunday, capping off the penultimate season of the mega-popular fantasy series. The super-sized episode will have a runtime of 79 minutes and 43 seconds, making it the longest of the series yet.

But the newly unveiled title does raise the question: Which dragon and which wolf is the title referring to?

There are a number of possibilities, the most obvious being Daenerys and Jon, who seemed to spark a romantic relationship at the end of last week’s episode. Daenerys believes herself to be the sole surviving House Targaryen, whose sigil is a three-headed dragon, and Jon is King in the North and current leader of the Stark Clan, represented by a direwolf.

But it’s also possible that the title of the episode is referring to Jon’s lineage, which has long been speculated about by the fans and is slowly being revealed on the show.

At the end of Season 6, it was revealed that Jon isn’t the bastard son of Ned Stark, as everyone believed him to be, but is actually the child of his sister Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen — Dany’s older brother. Earlier this season, it was also hinted that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married at the time of Jon’s birth, which would make him the rightful heir to both houses.

Could the title “The Dragon and the Wolf” be a nod to Jon’s parentage? Will he and the show’s fans finally find out the truth in the finale? Or will Dany’s dragons will finally meet Ghost, Jon’s pet direwolf, for an 80-minute CGI animal playdate?

“Game of Thrones'” Season 7 finale airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
