‘Game of Thrones’ Fan Theory Suggests Sansa Stark Could End Up Married to Jon Snow
(Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for both the TV series and the “Song of Ice and Fire” books)
“Game of Thrones” is notorious for throwing characters together in bizarre marriages, but this one would take the cake.
A new fan theory posted by vlogger Alt Shift X suggests that there are hints already in place in George R.R. Martin‘s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels that suggest Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington), who were raised as siblings, could end up tying the knot in the TV series.
Before you vomit, consider the evidence.

In the prequel book, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” representatives of five noble houses compete in the Ashford tournament. The champions are: Lyonel Baratheon, Tybolt Lannister, Leo Tyrell, Humfrey Hardyng and Valaar Targaryen.
The order of the champions thus far roughly corresponds with the order of Sansa’s romantic interests: she was engaged to Joffrey Baratheon; she was engaged to Loras Tyrell; she was married to Tyrion Lannister; and Harrold Hardyng (in the books). If the trend holds, that would mean Sansa is destined to to marry a Targaryen.
And since we learned at the end of Season 6 that Jon is in fact the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen…you get the idea.

Granted, there are some gaps in this theory. First, the order does not match up exactly. In addition, the character Harrold doesn’t exist on the show, at least not yet. Sansa was instead married to Ramsay Bolton in Season 5.
But it does also make sense. Jon has been proclaimed ruler of the North by the other Northern lords. Should he learn of his true lineage, he would be free to marry Sansa to solidify his claim to the North since they are cousins — which is an accepted practice in the world of the show and books — and not siblings.

And being a male Targaryen, Jon has a legitimate claim to the Iron Throne. That would of course put him in direct competition with his aunt, Daenerys. Or they could team up, which is what we’re all hoping happens, right?
Either way, sibling sex is nothing new in “Game of Thrones.” Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) have gotten busy a number of times, and their romance is central to the show — and frowned upon by most of Westeros.
