‘Game of Thrones’ Fan Theory Says Arya to Stand In for Major Book Character

(Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Game of Thrones” and the “Song of Ice and Fire” book series)

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” may be substituting one character for another to modify a storyline from the books.

According to a new fan theory, Arya Stark may be taking over parts of the story from George R.R. Martin‘s books that featured Lady Stoneheart.

For those who don’t know, Lady Stoneheart is the resurrected form of Catelyn Stark. In the books, after she is killed at the Red Wedding, Catelyn’s body is recovered by Beric Dondarrion and the Brotherhood Without Banners. Dondarrion essentially exchanges his life for hers and brings her back to life.

In her resurrected form, Stoneheart proceeds on a quest for bloody revenge against the Freys, who orchestrated the Red Wedding on behalf of the Lannisters.

But in the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 finale, Arya cuts Walder Frey’s throat after feeding him a pie made of two of his sons. That has inspired speculation that she will serve the role her resurrected mother did in the books.

Now the question remains: Will Arya meet up with the Brotherhood in Season 7? She previously swore to dispatch Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr for their role in selling Gendry to Melisadre. Will she kill Dondarrion, who is already supposed to be dead in the books?
