Game Show Guru Ken Jennings Gets Owned on ‘500 Questions’

Ken Jennings may be the winningest Jeopardy contest in the history of the show, and he may have amassed more than $3 million over the course of his various game show appearances, but when he tried his hand at 500 Questions, he got owned.

Jennings was the first contestant for the Season 2 premiere of the show, and he lasted only four questions. Considering he won 74 consecutive games of Jeopardy, it was surprising that he left 496 questions on the table in 500 Questions.

In the game, a challenger gets to pick the category for the questions the player has to answer, and Jennings’ competitor realized his weakness was the French category. The game relies on the “three strikes and you’re out” rule, and while he got the first question right, the next three were a disaster.

But don’t feel too bad for Jennings. As his competitor pointed out, “He was really one of the first people that I saw, and I was like, ‘You can get famous for being a nerd? This is awesome!’”

The 500 Questions finale airs June 1 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
