Fox Tallies $2.73B International Grosses For 2015 In Studio’s 3rd Best Year Offshore
Wrapping up its third-highest grossing year ever, 20th Century Fox International today reported total offshore box office for 2015 came to $2.73 billion. Fox’s biggest year was 2014 with $3.73B and its second-best was 2010 with $2.93B.
Nine Fox movies grossed more than $100M in calendar year 2015. The biggest is The Martian with $370.4M and counting, with Japan opening Feb. 5, 2016. Next was Kingsman: The Secret Service with $279.2M, followed by Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials with $232M. At No. 4 was Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb which took in $186.5M during calendar year 2015. The movie debuted overseas in 2014 but earned most of its money in the current year wrapping up today.
No. 5 among Fox’s century milestones was DreamWorks Animation’s Home which grossed $182.3M in offshore markets handled by Fox. Taken 3, in 6th place, grossed $142.1M. The Melissa McCarthy comedy Spy took in $126M, ranking 7th among Fox International’s $100M+ grossers. The Fantastic Four reboot grossed $111.3M overseas, dwarfing its domestic take of $56.1M.
Another DreamWorks Animation picture, Penguins Of Madagascar, grossed $108.7M overseas in 2015 but was initially released in 2014.
Fox had an additional 10 titles that grossed between $45M and $95M, plus 13 more that took in between $10M and $30M.
