Fox News, Newt Gingrich Cut Ties as Donald Trump Mulls VP Pick
Fox News and Newt Gingrich have suspended their contributor agreement effective immediately.
The former House Speaker appeared on FNC moments after it was announced he would suspend ties with the network.
Gingrich proceeded to that presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump will announce his choice for running mate, “either tomorrow or Thursday. Certainly no later than Friday.”

“Fox News Channel has mutually agreed to suspend its contributor agreement with former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich effective immediately. Due to the intense media speculation about Gingrich’s potential selection as Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential candidate, we felt it best to halt his contributor role on the network to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise,” Fox News EVP Jay Wallace said in a statement.
Gingrich is considered among the favorites to be selected as Trump’s choice, while Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst are also under consideration for the gig.
“I have no idea who he’s gonna pick,” Gingrich said on Fox News. “As a citizen, if you have an opportunity to help lead the country, I don’t know how you can turn it down.”

The Republican National Convention kicks off on Monday, July 18, in Cleveland, Ohio, and Trump is expected to have his potential vice president in place by then. Gingrich called Trump’s current search “a little bit like ‘The Apprentice.'”
Trump has publicly said that Gingrich will be involved in the government in some capacity if he’s elected president, so Fox News cutting ties with the former Speaker doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be the V.P. choice.
