‘Flash’ Season 3 Recap: New Timeline Proves to Be Barry Disappointing

On the Season 3 premiere of The Flash, we found Barry Allen in an alternate timeline after having prevented his mother’s murder by the Reverse-Flash during the Season 2 finale. While Barry enjoyed his new timeline with his parents both alive, Time was reacting to Barry’s changes in reality.

Barry has dealt with the ramifications of changing timelines several times throughout the first two seasons, but he somehow thought that preventing his mother’s death would go unnoticed. The Reverse-Flash warned him of the consequences to altering time, saying, “This isn’t your home, Barry. This is a mirage, a fiction that will end us both,” adding, “One day soon, Barry, you’ll be begging me to kill her again.”

When Barry realized his memories were being erased, as was the original timeline, he did indeed ask the Reverse-Flash to kill his mother. After her death, it appeared that the original timeline had been restored … but Barry soon found out it had not.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CW.
