'Fear the Walking Dead' Showrunner Talks: What Will They Call the Walkers?

Walkers. Biters. Roamers. Deadies. Rotters. Those are but a few of the names the undead have been called in the universe of The Walking Dead.

But when Fear the Walking Dead, the TWD companion series that follows the zombie apocalypse during its early days in Los Angeles, debuts this summer, what will the walkers be called? It’s too early in the game for them to warrant the name “rotters,” and the citizenry may not know enough about them at that point to know of their habit of being “roamers.”

Instead, Fear showrunner Dave Erickson hints to Yahoo TV that what the walkers will be called plays off the early beliefs of what causes the zombie outbreak.

“I’m going to surprise you,” says Erickson, who was also a producer and writer on Sons of Anarchy and Low Winter Sun. “All I’ll say is this: I love the fact that in the comic and the original show, the vernacular, the language, varies depending on your community, your city, your state, whether it’s walkers or biters.

“The names that we’ll play with are kind of specific to what our characters experience as the story begins. Which is, if it seems to be a virus, it’s a contagion, are they infected? It will be in that world at first, and then I think it will approach something a little bit more apocalyptic. That will coalesce as the season plays out.”

So, fellow Dead-heads, we’ve come up with a few potential Fear zombie nicknames ourselves. Let us know which one you think could be used in the new series, or sound off in the comments with an idea of your own.
