'Fear the Walking Dead' Cast and Producers: Our Characters Haven't Gone Through 'Zombie 101'

We’ve shared our reviews and insights about the upcoming Walking Dead companion series Fear the Walking Dead… now you can hear all about the show from the FTWD cast and producers themselves.

In the exclusive behind-the-scenes video above, Fear showrunner and co-creator Dave Erickson, executive producers Greg Nicotero and Gale Anne Hurd, stars Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, and Frank Dillane, and co-executive producer and director Adam Davidson break down the new series, which revolves around a “highly dysfunctional blended family,” as Erickson says, whose world is rocked when strange events turn their friends and neighbors into very different beings.

“Our characters haven’t gone through ‘Zombie 101,’” Erickson says of the Los Angeles residents who don’t know what has caused — and more importantly, how to properly deal with — the new, dead-eyed, human-noshers who are roaming around in fairly small numbers.

For now.

As what Erickson calls the “apocalyptic education” continues, we get to “experience how society unravels,” Nicotero says.

And fans who are already hooked on the mothership series may enjoy “the fact that they know more than the characters of [Fear],” adds Davidson, who directed the 90-minute FTWD series premiere episode.

Fear the Walking Dead premieres Aug. 23 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
