'Fear the Walking Dead' Promo: In Denial

Update: After last week’s fleet-footed sneak peek at Fear the Walking Dead, AMC has released another teaser trailer, this one spotlighting series star Kim Dickens. The actress plays single mom and high school guidance counselor, Madison, who in this snippet tries and fails to convince one of her students that there’s no such thing as the zombie apocalypse. That’s maybe not the best advertisement for her “guidance counseling” skills…

In advance of the show’s Comic-Con debut in July, AMC has offered up a tantalizing glimpse of why we should all fear The Walking Dead prequel Fear the Walking Dead. This 30-second clip showcases series co-star Frank Dillane racing away from an unseen threat, which we all know to be a brain-hungry zombie.

But, in the world of the series, Dillane’s character, Nick, may not be entirely aware of what’s going on. That’s partly because he’s a college dropout with a bad drug habit, but also due to the fact that the series begins in the early days of the zombie apocalypse (a stretch of time during which Walking Dead hero Rick Grimes was in a coma), when the general public hasn’t yet awakened to the fact that civilization as they knew it was ending.

That’s a collapse that Fear the Walking Dead, which takes place in Los Angeles, will follow as the episodes progress, though creator Robert Kirkman also says the new series will eventually jump forward in time to line up with the chronology of its zombie mothership. Along with Dillane, the cast includes Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis as an affianced couple, and Ruben Blades and Mercedes Mason as a father and daughter. Let’s hope that they’re as fast on their feet as Nick appears to be, because otherwise they’re going to be zombie food pretty darn quickly.

Fear the Walking Dead premieres in August on AMC.
