Brit stars Toby Jones and Sienna Miller play Hollywood icons Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren in The Girl, an upcoming HBO movie about the relationship between the master of suspense and his notable leading lady.

And if you thought Hitchcock’s films were intense, Jones tells TVLine, wait until you see the legendary director’s obsession with then-showbiz neophyte Hedren unfold on screen.

The actor, whose career includes The Hunger Games, My Week With Marilyn and W., notes that Hitchcock first noticed the blonde beauty in a commercial and soon wanted no one but her to play The Birds’ lead Melanie – a part Hitchcock referred to as “the girl.”

“He knew every single aspect of filmmaking, and I think he thought, ‘Well, I’ll just make her into a good enough actress,” Jones says. “‘She has limitations as an actress, but I’m so able and so practical that I will be able to transform her to my needs.’”
