Kermit and Miss Piggy Share a Pre-Emmys Lunch, Get Interrupted by Celebs

After their very public break-up, it’s good to know Kermit and Miss Piggy can still be civil and enjoy a nice lunch together… as long as the paparazzi are there to document it, of course.

In this special Emmys promo, the stars of ABC’s new fall comedy The Muppets sit down for a L.A. power lunch ahead of Sunday’s big night. Kermit wants to make sure this lunch is strictly professional; Piggy assures him it is… even as she rudely refers to Kermit’s new girlfriend as “Dennis.” (It’s Denise, actually.)

Modern Family star Julie Bowen sends them over a bottle of champagne, but Piggy doesn’t appreciate the gesture; she storms over and loudly accuses Bowen of trying to poison her to eliminate her from next year’s Emmy race. Then Piggy runs into Emmy nominee Viola Davis in the ladies’ room and gives her the skinny on her split with Kermit: ”Oh, I’m fantastic; he’s heartbroken, though.”

Outside, we learn Piggy’s true motivation for lunch when she and Kermit are besieged by paparazzi — who Piggy tipped off in advance. And we get one last celebrity cameo, as Kermit encounters Community’s Joel McHale at the valet stand, where McHale says he’s “being green” by driving an Audi plug-in hybrid. (Yes, Audi is an official sponsor of this year’s Emmys.)

Power lunches, paparazzi, hybrid cars: Yep, looks like Kermit and Miss Piggy are adjusting to modern-day Hollywood just fine.

The 67th Emmy Awards air Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox; The Muppets premieres Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
