Ellen DeGeneres Tells How She Dislocated Her Finger and When She Realized Things Could Be Worse

Ellen DeGeneres opened her show on Tuesday by showing off her ring finger in a small splint. DeGeneres explained that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were returning home from a dinner party, when their dogs got a little overexcited and she tripped and fell into a door, dislocating her finger. DeGeneres took a picture of her crooked finger after the injury and showed it to the crowd without warning. This got the response you’d expect, but not nearly the response as when she showed a picture of the X-ray, in which you could see her finger disconnected at the knuckle.

DeGeneres went on to explain how the shot she was given to numb the pain only made it worse before it got better. But before leaving the hospital, she was reminded that things could always be worse. DeGeneres explained that as she was waiting outside for someone to pull the car up, she was approached by a couple who asked if they could take a selfie with her.

DeGeneres said, “We stand there getting a selfie, and he goes, ‘I hope you’re going to be OK.’ And I say, ‘I just dislocated my finger. What happened to you?’ And he goes, ‘I got hit by a bus.’”
