Elizabeth Warren Discusses Being Banned From Senate Floor on ‘The Daily Show’
On The Daily Show, Trevor Noah talked to Elizabeth Warren about being formally silenced on the floor of the Senate by Mitch McConnell after reading a letter written by Coretta Scott King, which criticized Jeff Sessions for blocking black people’s voting rights.
Despite her ousting from the floor, Warren was able to find a silver lining, saying, “The main thing is that millions of people are now reading Coretta Scott King’s letter. It is an amazing letter. It is a letter full of passion. It is a letter full of heart, and it is a letter full of advice to us. It talks about a moment in history when African-Americans were beaten away from the polls. And it talked about Jeff Sessions’s role in that.”
After Warren was banned from the floor, she went to Facebook live and read the letter in full, garnering over 10 million views and counting. But it takes more than social media to create change. She said, “We don’t have the votes in the United States Senate to block somebody like Jeff Sessions, or yesterday to block a secretary of education who doesn’t believe in public education. We don’t have those votes. So what we have got to do is count on people all around this country to make their voices heard.”
