Drew Simon Joins STX As SVP Production

EXCLUSIVE: Drew Simon has joined STX Entertainment as SVP Production. He had been VP Film at the Mark Gordon Company. Simon joins Robert Simonds’ burgeoning film company as it produces and releases a slate of 12-15 features. The company has been staffing up in recent weeks, bringing in Yahoo’s Kathy Savitt, WME agent Philip Button and QED’s John Friedberg on board.

The company’s first release, The Gift, performed well, grossing $43 million domestically and earning good reviews. Next up is the Julia Roberts-Chiwetel Ejiofor thriller Secret In Their Eyes, opening wide November 20.

Prior to joining STX, Simon oversaw a slate of projects at the Mark Gordon Co., including Cowboy Ninja Viking with Chris Pratt, The Politician produced with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and the sequel to 2011 Jake Gyllenhaal sci-fi pic Source Code. Prior to that, Simon was a production exec at Bob Shaye’s Unique Features and began his career at New Line Cinema.

“As we continue to bring in some of the most sought-after and intriguing projects in the industry, it is imperative that we continue to staff our production team with forward-thinking executives who have an eye for compelling and commercial material,” said STX President and Chief Content Officer Oren Aviv, who announced the hire with head of production Cathy Schulman. “Drew is an exceptional addition to our staff and we are excited to start working with him.”
