Dr. Oz Responds to His Critics

Dr. Oz took time on his popular talk show to respond to critics who have accused him of failing to properly provide medical advice as he's grown in stature.

Recently, a letter signed by 10 doctors around the country criticized Columbia University for giving him a faculty position. Dr. Oz responded by having an independent investigation into each of those 10 doctors exposing what he believes is personal agenda against him.

"What's the motivation. Why now," asked Oz as he speculated by saying, "Many in the media claim it has to do with my senate testimony last June on weight loss supplements. But we stopped mentioning any of these products a year ago. So it's got to be something else."

That something else, he claims, was his support of having genetically modified foods be labeled as such. Oz believes these doctors are publicly shaming him because they do not support GMO labeling.

But Oz's critics extend beyond the GMO debate. A study produced by the British Medical Journal in December claimed the research supporting recommendations he's given on his show are "frequently absent, contradictory or of poor quality."

Dr. Oz defended himself, again, by stating "But even my harshest critics, the authors of a recent British Medical Journal piece, acknowledged that they are, and I'll quote this, 'disappointed that the overwhelming commentary seems to be that our study somehow proves that Dr. Oz or The Doctors, another show, are quacks or charlatans or worse. Our data in no way supports these conclusions'"

But In the face of criticism, Dr. Oz has proven he is clearly committed to his cause saying, "No matter our disagreements, freedom of speech is our fundamental right we have as Americans… So I vow to you right now, we will not be silenced. We will not give in."
