Doug Kraner Dies; ‘Gotham’ Production Designer Was 65
Production designer Doug Kraner, Emmy-nominated for his work on Gotham and with a long list of credits that reaches back through such ’80s fare as Lean on Me and the original Uncle Buck, died April 4 of cancer. He was 65 and lived in West Hollywood.
Kraner’s passing was confirmed on his Facebook page, which noted that he died peacefully at his home following a 15-month battle with cancer.
Kraner’s most recent work, in addition to Gotham, included The Tomorrow People, Devious Maids and The Forgotten, among others. His big-screen work included Sleeping With the Enemy and, in 1998, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which launched a working relationship with producer Danny Cannon that continued through Gotham. In addition to the Emmy nod, Gotham earned Kraner an Art Directors Guild nomination.
Kraner began his career as a set director on 1981’s My Dinner With Andre. He is survived by his mother, a sister, a niece and nephew.
