Just hours after his campaign announced that Donald Trump would not get into specifics about his health during a taping of “The Dr. Oz Show” on Wednesday, the GOP nominee surprised the daytime talk show host with some details from a recent medical examination.
A campaign spokeswoman issued a statement Wednesday confirming that Trump handed Dr. Oz a one-page summary of the physical he underwent last week.
“Mr. Trump shared with Dr. Oz the results of his physical examination performed last week by Dr. Harold Bornstein, M.D. of Lenox Hill Hospital, whom has been Mr. Trump’s personal physician for many years,” the statement read.
Bornstein is the same doctor who wrote Trump’s previous medical record stating that, if elected, Trump be the healthiest president in history.
Details of the episode are sparse, as the taping — shot on Wednesday and scheduled to air Thursday — was closed to the media. But a news release from the show said that Dr. Oz took Trump “through a full review of systems including the following: nervous system; head and neck; hormone levels; cardiovascular health and related medications; respiratory health; gastrointestinal health; bladder or prostate health; dermatological health; history of cancer.”
Bornstein is not believed to have taken part in the interview. But the “Oz” statement said Ivanka Trump was there “to speak further about the child care and maternity leave initiative that the Trump campaign announced Tuesday night.”
It unclear whether Oz tested Trump himself or read the results from the physical submitted by Bornstein. Ahead off the taping, Oz told Fox News he would ask Trump “pointed questions about his health,”but insisted he wouldn’t ask questions his guest “doesn’t want to have answered,” adding, “it’s his decision.”
Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon, has a large female audience, one that the Trump campaign has been aggressively courting in recent months.
Trump has made an issue of Clinton’s health and stamina during the campaign, but has refrained from commenting about Clinton’s recent bout with pneumonia.
