‘Doctor Who’ Spinoff ‘Class’ Reveals Cast

Casting decisions in the Doctor Who universe are always a big deal, and the show’s upcoming spinoff series, Class, recently revealed several of its main roles.

The four students at the fictional Coal Hill School will be played by Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, and Vivian Oparah. The fifth main cast member is Katherine Kelly, and according to a BBC America press release, she’ll be playing “a teacher and powerful new presence.” Kelly currently stars as Lady Mae in the PBS period piece Mr Selfridge.

Class creator Patrick Ness shared a glimpse at the Coal Hill School set and cast with an interactive 360 degree YouTube video. The school has previously been featured in Doctor Who, and one of Doctor Who’s companions, Clara, worked there as a teacher.

Steven Moffat, executive producer of both Class and Doctor Who, called the upcoming spinoff “dark and sexy and right now” and even compared it to the American cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Other Doctor Who spinoffs in recent memory have included The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood, which followed a group of alien hunters.
