‘Doctor Who’ Season 10 Catch-Up Guide: 5 Things to Remember

It’s been 16 months since the last full season of Doctor Who. Ahead of Saturday’s return to BBC America, here is a non-linear, non-subjective catch-up guide to all the wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey … stuff.

In the 2016 Christmas special, “The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” we learned that the Doctor had been away from the universe for 24 years, spending his “final night” with wife River Song on the planet Darillium. But while the Doctor might be back, he is now mourning River’s death at the Library. To help him move on, the Doctor reassembled River’s former decapitated assistant, Nardole, and made him a companion.

Speaking of companions, Clara is now off on her own adventures alongside the immortal Ashildr in their own Tardis. Where are they going? According to Clara, “Gallifrey, the long way round.”

Meanwhile, the villainous Time Lady Missy was last seen surrounded by the Doctor’s greatest nemeses, the Daleks, when she claimed she “just had a very clever idea.” But Missy wasn’t the only Time Lord menacing the Doctor.

With Gallifrey saved from the Time War, the Time Lords locked the Doctor in a confession dial in hopes of learning the truth behind “The Hybrid.” Breaking out of the confession dial after 4.5 billion years, the Doctor finally returned to Gallifrey, and he was angry.

Season 10 of Doctor Who premieres April 15 at 9 p.m. on BBC America.
